A little more about me...
I struggled with daily migraines, autoimmune disease, and fibromyalgia/chronic pain since the age of 13 (I’m now 36). Had I known what I know now, I could have avoided many years of daily suffering. I first sought Western medicine, then slowly found my way to Eastern medicine and alternative methods. It was a combination of dietary changes, Eastern/Western medicine, and learning to believe in my own self-healing power that healed me.
I attended an amazing conference the summer of 2014, put on by Dr. Lissa Rankin, who wrote one of my favorites: Mind Over Medicine. In this conference, the mention of Dorothy came up and it made a powerful connection with me. Little hints of The Wizard of Oz keep appearing in my life and nudging me to to pursue this project - hence the name. I even met a dog named, Toto as I was toying with the website name!
I learned just like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, that I always had the power within me, I just had to realize it on my own, as Glenda The Good Witch said. I learned there is no perfect cookie cutter “recipe” for healing – it’s about finding the right combination that works for you and people to support me in the process. I believe the path looks similar for all people striving towards wellness. I learned to listen to my gut and what my body was telling me. Finally, adopting a lifestyle of wellness was the key to my continued success and living HEALED.
My mom instilled my love of cooking by having me at her side in the kitchen & enrolled me in my very first cooking class at the age of 3. This love of cooking grew into a love for nutrition (and a necessity as my health required a diet overhaul). I've spent many years sharing this knowledge with students in K-12. I hold a teaching credential in home economics, studied at Ballymaloe Cookery School in Ireland, hold a certificate in nutrition from the Royal School of Public Health, and am currently working on my Master's from the University of Gastronomic Sciences, in Italy. By combining my love of food and health, I believe others can learn from my example how to begin their own self-healing journey towards being healed.
The Ruby Slipper Project is about creating a community where people can share their success stories and inspire others who are suffering from pain on a daily basis. There is HOPE. Creating and maintaining a lifestyle of wellness is the key. I'm here to support you in the process.
After talking to many other people who have healed themselves from a variety of diseases (Asthma, Type II Diabetes, breast cancer, headaches, obesity and more), I realized the key to continued success was adopting a lifestyle of wellness. Today I’m actively working towards living my best life and I want the same for you too. Together, we have a lot of catching up to do!
